About me

Francesca Granone is a physicist holding a Ph.D. in material science and currently serves as an associate professor in mathematics at the University of Stavanger in the Early Childhood Education Department. She earned her teaching license from the University of Genova and completed the pedagogical course UniPed at the University of Stavanger. Granone has undergone specialized training in Special Pedagogy, encompassing courses such as "Spesialpedagogikk" and "Biologi, kognisjon og motivasjon i et læringsperspektiv" at Kristiania University. Additionally, she is presently engaged in a Neuroscience course at the "Asociaciòn Educar."

Granone holds certifications for applying specific pedagogical methods, including the Montessori method, Feuerstein method, and methods designed for teaching mathematics to children with dyscalculia. Her goal is to aid children in comprehending mathematics, catering to typically developing children, those with learning difficulties, and children with disabilities.

In her research, Granone focuses on three primary areas. Firstly, she delves into technology in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC), emphasizing computational thinking and inclusion, as seen in the "DiCoTe" project. Secondly, she works on defining activities for mediators to support cognitive development in children with disabilities through inclusive research in the "VERDI" project. Lastly, Granone explores outdoor mathematics in ECEC. She maintains close ties with the field of practice in both Italy and Norway, contributing to proposals based on partnerships between ECEC teachers, researchers, and co-researchers with disabilities.

She co-leads the "DiCoTe" project with Professor Elin Reikerås, focusing on enhancing professional digital competence in ECTE to enrich and support children's play with coding toys, financed by the Research Council of Norway.

Granone also spearheads the project "Utvikling av ressurser for å forstå hverdagen gjennom inkluderende forskning," utilizing the inclusive research method to better comprehend everyday mathematics. The project, funded by Stiftelsen Dam, is co-led by Martin Stokke and Enrico Pollarolo.

Furthermore, she led the project "Tidlig Innsats, tidlig i livet," concentrating on identifying risk factors for children in the first 1000 days of their lives, with financial support from KS.
