Content

Relevant lectures / courses / seminars / conferences are put together to cover topics that harmonize with the chosen PhD thesis and course syllabus. Current molecular biological techniques and relevant topics can be taught at UiS or other institutions provided it is approved in the syllabus by the course leader. PhD seminars where fellow students present their research are offered annually and an active participation with a presentation on the subject of the syllabus is a forum approved for the course's requirement of two presentations. At IKBM, there is expertise in topics such as: enzyme kinetics, cell signaling, post-translational regulatory mechanisms in cells, chloroplast development, mitochondrial dynamics / regulations, cancer metabolism, biological rhythms, ecotoxicology and zoonoses.

Learning outcome

  • Good knowledge of experimental methods used in their research field, as well as an overview of the most important analyzes used in their field. Good understanding of the advantages and challenges of applying different methods and analyzes within their field.
  • Detailed knowledge of the chosen topic in the syllabus and current methods that can be used to shed light on questions related to the topic.
  • Be able to perform literature reviews and describe learning objectives, as well as present own and previously published research results to an audience.

Course assessment

There must be an early dialogue between the course supervisor, the student union representative and the students. The purpose is feedback from the students for changes and adjustments in the course for the current semester. In addition, a digital subject evaluation must be carried out at least every three years. Its purpose is to gather the students experiences with the course.
