The International Centre for Responsible Tourism Finland (ICRT Finland) network coordinated by Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) organizes in cooperation with Nordic partners the first Nordic responsible tourism online seminar week, which gathers experts around the topic.
The International Centre for Responsible Tourism Finland (ICRT Finland) network coordinated by Jyväskylä University of Applied Sciences (Jamk) organizes in cooperation with Nordic partners the first Nordic responsible tourism online seminar week, which gathers experts around the topic. In addition to Jamk, the event is being organized by Dalarna University and Region Västerbotten Tourism from Sweden, Hólar University and the Icelandic Tourism Research Center from Iceland, the University of Southern Denmark from Denmark, the University of Stavanger from Norway, the University of Eastern Finland and Visit Finland from Finland, and the global International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT Hub) network.
Nordic cooperation has already been carried out for a few years, and a joint publication on the best practices of responsible tourism will be launched during this spring. The plan is to turn the online seminar week into an annual recurring event that brings together both students and industry representatives as well as education and research staff to discuss current topics and network across national borders.
The program, which takes place in the afternoons from Monday to Friday, is full of interesting speeches from prominent tourism experts from around the world. Each day has its own theme, and in addition to speeches, the program includes interactive workshops and discussions.
The speaker of the first lectures of the week is Harold Goodwin, the founder of the international ICRT network, who is known as one of the most important promoters of responsible tourism in the world. Visit Finland's experts Liisa Kokkarinen and Hanna Muoniovaara shed light on what kind of development work for responsibility is being done in Finland, and what kind of climate measures are implemented in tourism.
In Tuesday's program, Kajsa Åberg, Kristin Godtman Kling and Lina Nillson bring out different perspectives to promote accessibility in tourism with concrete examples from Sweden. The ethical challenges of tourism will be addressed on Wednesday under the leadership of Åsa Helen Grahn (Norway), Anne-Mette Hjalager (Denmark) and Ioanna Farsari (Sweden).
Thursday afternoon brings out concrete tools for promoting responsibility in tourism led by Gústaf Gústafsson, Ásta Kristín Sigurjónsdóttir and Jessica Aquino from Iceland. The last session of the week examines new forms of tourism and responsibility communication through the speeches of Katja Pasanen, Elli Vento, Minna Tunkkari-Eskelinen and Rositsa Röntynen and a panel discussion consisting of Nordic speakers moderated by Guðrún Þóra Gunnarsdóttir.
The seminar week is open to everyone and free of charge. Media representatives are also welcome to participate in the seminar.
