Dengjun Zhang is promoted to professor of accounting at the UiS Business School. His recent research focuses on economic sustainability and sustainable finance.
Dengjun Zhang's research work contributes to both the Norwegian and international society as his research cases include the seafood and hospitality sectors in Norway and manufacturing firms in developing countries.
Since 2013, he has published 50 articles in international peer-reviewed accounting, finance, and economics journals. His research interests include firms' access to financing, capital structure, benefits and costs of corporate environmental responsibility, and agriculture economics. Recently, his research has focused on economic sustainability and sustainable finance.
Zhang says that he likes disseminating his research results through presentations to policymakers and a general audience and writing pop-science articles. His research team has presented its results to the Royal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
A passion for mentoring
Zhang has taught accounting courses in Norwegian, English, and Chinese and has also given lectures to graduate students in several countries. He is passionate about mentoring bachelor's, master and doctoral students.
In the future, he says that he'd like to combine his research with teaching and project applications more effectively.
– It is always my aspiration to derive policy and managerial implications from my research results.
He has been with the UiS Business School since 2016 as an associate professor.
He got a Ph.D. in 2011 from Auburn University in Alabama, US.
Before joining academia, he worked as an auditor, financial analyst, and investment manager for ten years.
